Clarification Regarding Zestino Tires 01s and 07s racing tires.
Background information
Zestino Tires 01s and 07s are new to the Canadian market and WCMA competitors and the distributor have asked for clarification of the tires eligibility in PT or ST4, and for clarification of PT Point Assessed or ST Modification Factors if used.
Information
Zestino 01s and 07s are of a Steel Belted Radial construction constant with other DOT R-Compound tires and have a molded DOT label and number.
Zestino T07s have a molded in Tread wear rating and 01s have a molded in Compound rating of “S”, “M” or “H”
Documentation both on the Tire sticker and on Zestino’s webpage states
“S” = Soft = Tread wear of 40, “M” = Medium = Tread wear of 60, “H” = Hard = Tread wear of 80
Findings
Eligibility
The Zestino Tires 01s and 07s will be considered a DOT R-Compound tire for classification and safety requirements, and are therefore eligible for in all PT and ST classes (appropriated Point Assessed or ST Modification Factors must be claimed/used).
Where a molded Tread wear is present it will be used to assess PT points. If the Tread wear is not present the molded compound rating it will be used to assess PT points. If no molded Tread wear or compound rating is present then the tire will be assessed at the Softest / lowest Tread wear available.
PT points
Zestino Tires 01s and 07s “S” Soft – TW40 = Are assessed as per A3 of the NASA Performance Touring Rules - “R-compound tires and those with a UTQG treadwear rating of 40 or less not listed otherwise in these rules“ + 10 points
Zestino Tires 01s and 07s ““M” Medium – TW60 and “H” Hard – TW80 are assessed as per A7 of the NASA Performance Touring Rules - “R-compound tires with a UTQG treadwear rating over 40 “ + 4 points
ST4
As per 7.4.2 NASA Super Touring (ST) & Super Unlimited (SU), no modification factor is applied.
On-Going Review
As with all tires the Zestino 01s and 07s will be subject to review and reassessment at the discretion of NASA or WCMA.
