Competition Licenses

The WCMA governs driver licensing in Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba for Amateur Roadracing, Solo, Ice Racing, and Vintage (Historic). Karting & Professional race licenses are issued by ASN Canada FIA directly.

The following types of licenses and permits are issued by the WCMA and ASN Canada:

Ice Race:
This is the minimum license required for ice racing

Amateur/Historic:
This is the minimum license required for road-racing. This license will enable you to race at tracks across Canada at an amateur level. WCMA accepts other ASN Territory licenses, SCCA, IMSA and Grand Am licenses. Other forms of license may be accepted – please contact Wayne Schellekens, Race Director prior to entering the event.

ASN Professional / FIA C & Up:
ASN Canada FIA sanctioned series require a Professional license, issued by ASN Canada FIA Inc. Drivers of Canadian nationality competing in FIA sanctioned events, such as Paul Tracy, Alex Tagliani, and Jacques Villenueve, must have their licenses issued by ASN Canada FIA. For information on ASN Canada & FIA Licenses, please contact ASN Canada FIA.

Completed Permit Applications should be submitted to WCMA’s Race Director.

Vehicle Technical Inspection Form

Each competitor is required to fill out a Technical Inspection Form to present to the tech inspector before an event.   Completing and signing of this form by the competitor stipulates that the vehicle meets the regulations for the event.

It is the competitor’s sole responsibility to ensure compliance to the regulations initially and at all times during the event.   Inspections by the organizers, if any, do not imply compliance or any guarantee of vehicle safety.

Car Numbers

Car numbers for road racing in Alberta and Manitoba can be reserved on MotorsportReg.  Numbers are typically held for one season following their last use.
