Post by: Richard Dekker on May 20, 2026, 09:38:51 AM
On behalf of Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI), the Western Canada Motorsport Association (WCMA) is very pleased to announce the fourth year of the current Spec Miata Contingency Program as we begin the 2026 championship series.

We have an exciting season of four race events planned on two tracks, consisting of two weekends at RAD Torque Raceway south of Edmonton, AB as hosted by the Northern Alberta Sports Car Club on June 13/14 and August 22/23 and two events (one weekend plus a single-Saturday) at the Rocky Mountain Motorsports Park facility north of Calgary, AB as hosted by the Alberta Race Car Association on July 18/19 and September 19.

Spec Miata competitors must finish a minimum of 50 percent of the season's individual races over these six events (total number of races is not yet known per developing schedules) in order to be eligible for the Contingency Program's awards at the conclusion of the 2026 season.  The 2025 season comprised 31 races, with the minimum number of finishing results needed being 16, with 21 races in 2024 (minimum 11) and 24 races in 2023 (minimum 12).

MCI's Spec Miata Contingency Program is set to pay out $5,000 in total to the top-10 eligible drivers in the WCMA's 2026 Spec Miata championship, with the winner receiving $1,200, second place $1,000, third place $800, and decreasing on down to 10th place receiving $100.

Spec Miata, comprised of the first two generations of Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA and NB), is the most popular road racing class in the world.  It's very affordable and highly competitive throughout the entire field, offering many opportunities to grow the driver's speed and racecraft.  Between the Sports Car Club of America and National Auto Sport Association in the USA, the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs in Ontario and the WCMA in Alberta, there is not a more raced car.
