What a great weekend those of us who participated in "Raining on the Runways" had.

It was cold, it was wet, but boy was it fun!

Those of you who didn't show up don't know what you fun and entertainment and great racing you missed.  Timing & scoring had 2 photo finish races.  It's been a while since that has happened.

Thank you to Jed and the rest of his team for putting this race together.

Sue

And.......Many, many, many many THANKS to the intrepid gang of volunteer workers who worked the corner stations and timing etc during the crappiest weather I have ever raced in. I apologize for not waving to all the corner stations on the last lap of the last race.....I couldn't see you, ...couldn't see the corners!

Those last rain races were the most fun I've had racing for years.

Plusses:  1. All the efforts by the volunteers and racers to stage an indeed challenging event at CFB Edmonton this past weekend. Organizing the race takes NASCC's race committee months of preliminary work. Heroic corner workers braving Forrest Gump's rain that falls UP.
2. Jed's 3-pirouette display of the elegance of water ballet --- would have earned an Olympic gold even from the Russian judge...
3. Track tear-down in record time.
4. A respectable number of race license candidates attended a short but intensive school on Friday nite and Saturday.
5. Generally civilized on-track behavior by drivers.

Minuses: 1. the Jet Stream being 1000 miles too far south.
2.  Entries were a bit thin for one reason or another.
3.  1/2 worn BFG-Sport tires on the backside of a Mustang --- though better on a completely wet track than on greasy pavement.

Thanks to all who made this weekend happen!  It is incredible to think the event could run more or less on schedule, with all sessions running under such challenging weather conditions.  This really is an amazing group of officials, volunteers, corner marshals and experienced hands who jump in to fill in the gaps.

I can't believe the drivers stayed out and raced hard when they could not see past their own hand wiping the fog off of their windows, since the rain was so hard on the other side there was no way to see anyhow.  But how on earth did the marshals manage to stay out there, cloudburst after cloudburst?  Thank you, thank you, we driver's are not worthy of such dedication, but we sure appreciate it!

After looking at Ian's lovely pictures of the first race at Calgary this season (a few threads below) I thought I should add one from Rainin on the Runways.  This is what it looked like out my front window the last race of the weekend.
