The Edmonton Indy 2013 has been cancelled by the promoter, Octane Motorsports Events Inc, citing low attendance, and lack of a title sponsor. This of course means no Eurasia Cup GT race as well.

There is a slight, minuscule, even atom level chance the track may still be available for our use next summer, so please keep tabs on this forum for news. Also, .....don't hold your breath.

So given the fact that the City of Edmonton paid for a re design of the track a few years back at a cost of 3.0M +_ and even though its still going to have to be an "operating airport" until the end of 2013, it's realistic that in the interest of the city wanting to recapture some of its expense, that the track will still be available, isn't it? Is anyone talking to the city right now? We all know race schedules are now being drawn up for 2013 and most series will announce 2013 schedules in December, January.

The Eurasia Cup could still be a big draw, potentially a four race Eurasia series? If we have enough time we can try and get more competitors out of the pacific northwest, both open and closed wheel entrants. We may even be able to secure a season sponsor and celebrate our own spectacle for the same race weekend of the past Indy races. Just thinking out loud here...

Is there anything any of us in Calgary could help out with? Is this an NASCC activity only? Fingers crossed for 2013 and the Edmonton Indy track!

I wish it was that easy....  Civic politics play a huge part in this. It is being discussed.
