August 17, 2023 — The Western Canada Motosports Association (WCMA) on behalf of Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) is pleased to present a 2023 Spec Miata Championship update with respect to MCI's Spec Miata Contingency Program.

The 2023 racing season is now three events into its four-race event season, with 18 of 24 races complete—the recent event hosted by the Alberta Race Car Association (ARCA) at the Rocky Mountain Motorsports Park (RMM) on August 11-12 saw the championship up-ended in the points leaderboard.

The Northern Alberta Sports Car Club (NASCC) is set to host the season-ending event at RAD Torque Raceway (RTR), August 19-20, offering up six remaining races with the sixth being a double-points race.

The 2023 WCMA Spec Miata season has currently seen 11 drivers competing.  Spec Miata, comprised of the first two generations of Mazda MX-5 Miata, is the most popular road racing class in the world.  It's very affordable and highly competitive throughout the entire field, offering many opportunities to grow the driver's speed and race-craft.  Between the Sports Car Club of America and National Auto Sport Association in the USA, and the Western Canada Motorsport Association in Canada, there is not a more raced car.

Mazda Canada Inc.'s Spec Miata Contingency Program is set of pay out $5,000 in total to the top-10 eligible drivers in the WCMA Spec Miata championship, with the winner receiving $1,200, second $1,000, third $800, decreasing on down to 10th receiving $100.  Eight competitors have the potential to accumulate sufficient race finishes at the season finale to be eligible for contingency funds.

WCMA and MCI look forward to the series finale of racing and wish all competitors luck as they chase the 2023 Spec Miata championship.

Mazda Canada Inc. is responsible for the sales and marketing, customer service, and parts support of Mazda vehicles in Canada.  Headquartered in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Mazda Canada has a nationwide network of 163 dealerships.
