Need to step up to the high Octane stuff.

Is VP Racing the only brand available in Calgary or are there others ??

Where is the best place to get race fuel from ??

I am looking for unleaded in the 103 - 109 Octane range.

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter,

VP is probably the easiest to find. The dealer is located up at the Mohawk on McKnight. It is WAY cheaper if you buy a large drum VS buying it in the small ones.

Last year we ordered in 8 barrels of Competition Fuels version of VP c12 and it was about $150 per barrel cheaper and it worked awesome in my car. Problem is we pretty much have to organize a group buy to get it out here (closest dealer is in Lethbridge) and it was a lot of work to pickup and store.

There may be some of it around still.

I think we are in the middle of the once every two year banning of the leaded fuel bulldoody from the feds.  Might not be able to import any until the sanctioning bodies point out to the feds, again, that airplanes use over 99% of the leaded fuel in this country, and punishing racers is dimwitted, and so on.  Just like a couple years ago, and a couple years before that, and so on, and so on... ::)

These guys are also talking about VP fuel availability in Calgary....sounds like one group just bought out the store.

Latest news on the Environment Canada's web site - regarding Lead fuel  (there must be a more current news than this!)
News ReleaseGovernment Plans to Allow a Limited Exemption for the Use of Leaded Gasoline in Competition Vehicles
OTTAWA, ON -- April 28, 2008 -- Canada 's Environment Minister, John Baird, today announced that the Government intends to support the racing industry in Canada by granting an exemption from the Gasoline Regulations until January 1, 2010.

The Government received a great deal of feedback from Canadians on the issue of leaded fuel for the racing industry.  This feedback was virtually unanimous in its support for an extension to allow the industry more time to adapt.

The Gasoline Regulations, passed in 1990, essentially eliminated lead in gasoline. Many race categories have already converted to unleaded gasoline. However, alternatives to leaded racing fuels are not used by all race-sanctioning associations for all types of competition vehicles.  Many foreign sanctioning bodies continue to use leaded racing gasoline.

The amount of leaded gasoline used by the racing industry represents less than 2% of the total leaded fuel use in Canada. The remaining volume is used under a permanent exemption provided to aviation because there is currently no suitable non-leaded replacement fuel available for some aircraft.

I'll check with Dave Schaeffel tomorrow.  He's the NHRA Div 6 tech director, and always has his finger on this stuff.

Tale from the NHRA is this.  There is a race at Mission coming up, and they have had no trouble getting fuel across the border.  Ontario, it sounds like someone down there is selling unleaded race fuel, and may be inspiring some border issues.  Apparently one racer coming home from south with a drum of c16 had to leave it at the border. The guys with fuel in stock here are taking advantage, and jacking the price.  Talk is early June for regular delivery to start back up.

This issue is stalled on the table at the house of commons, because of the Afgan prisoner issue and the prorogue.  Apparently the bill on the table is to make a permanent exemption for race fuel, based on matching the American race fuel standards.  When the Yanks make good unleaded and start burning it in Nascar, we then lose leaded fuel permanently.
