Competition Licenses

The WCMA governs driver licensing in Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba for Amateur Road Racing, Solo, Ice Racing, and Vintage (Historic).

License Types

The following types of licenses are issued by the WCMA:

Ice Race:
This is the minimum license required for ice racing.

Amateur/Historic:
This is the minimum license required for road-racing, and is also valid for Time Attack, Endurance and Ice events. This license will enable you to race at tracks across Canada at an amateur level and . WCMA accepts other Canadian Territory licenses, SCCA, IMSA and Grand Am licenses. Other forms of license may be accepted – please contact the WCMA’s Race Director prior to entering the event.

Endurance:
This is the minimum license required for Endurance racing.

Time Attack
This is the minimum license required for time attack racing.  Licensing information can be found under the Time Attack SoloSport page.

 

License Requirements

Ice Race License

  • Applications are submitted on MotorsportReg.
  • Completed and signed Annual General Waiver.
  • Completed and signed WCMA Self-Declaration Medical Form.
  • Cheque or money order in the amount of $45.00 payable to WCMA.
  • Original or photocopy of your VALID Club Membership Card.
  • Picture — head and shoulders — black and white or colour (passport size).
  • Additional $35.00 late processing fee if making application within 7 days of event you wish to compete in.
  • Note that some clubs require proof of completion of an ice race school before accepting Basic license holders ice race entries.

Endurance License

  • Applications are submitted on MotorsportReg.
  • Completed and signed Annual General Waiver.
  • Completed and signed WCMA Self-Declaration Medical Form.
  • Cheque or money order in the amount of $50.00 payable to WCMA.
  • Original or photocopy of your VALID Club Membership Card.
  • Picture — head and shoulders — black and white or colour (passport size).
  • Additional $35.00 late processing fee if making application within 7 days of event you wish to compete in.
  • Note that some clubs require proof of completion of an endurance race school before accepting an endurance license holders entries.

Amateur/Historic License

FIRST TIME APPLICATION:

  • Applications are submitted on MotorsportReg .
  • Proof that you have successfully completed an approved competition driving school. For information on approved competition driving schools, please contact the Race Director.
  • Completed and signed Annual General Waiver.
  • Cheque or money order for $100.00 payable to WCMA.
  • Completed WCMA Medical Examination Form.
    • Note: Stress ECG is not required for any licenses issued by the WCMA unless directed by your physician.
  • Picture – head and shoulders – black and white or colour (passport size).
  • Original or photocopy of your VALID Club Membership Card.

RENEWAL:

  • Renewals are submitted online to our MotorsportReg account.
  • Completed and signed Annual General Waiver.
  • Cheque or money order for $100.00 payable to WCMA.
  • Copy of your log book or copy of competition results showing participation in events.
  • A completed WCMA Medical Examination Form is required for applicants 60 years of age and older.
    WCMA reserves the right to request a medical examination by a physician from a license  applicant at any time.In years for which a medical is not required, a completed WCMA Self-Declaration Medical Form is required.

    • Note: Stress ECG is not required for any licenses issued by the WCMA unless directed by your physician.

  • Original or photocopy of your VALID Club Membership Card.
  • Additional $35.00 late processing fee if making application within 7 days of event you wish to compete in.

Vehicle Technical Inspection Form

Each competitor is required to fill out a Technical Inspection Form to present to the tech inspector before an event.   Completing and signing of this form by the competitor stipulates that the vehicle meets the regulations for the event.

It is the competitor’s sole responsibility to ensure compliance to the regulations initially and at all times during the event.   Inspections by the organizers, if any, do not imply compliance or any guarantee of vehicle safety.

Car Numbers

Car numbers for road racing in Alberta and Manitoba are reserved held until January 31st. Effective February 1st any unreserved numbers will be up for grabs. Please renew your car number under the WCMA Car Classing and Number Reservation area of the MotorsportReg site.
