Edmonton Racing

Everyone would like to know whether or not there will be WCMA racing on the Edmonton Indy track this summer.

Here is where things stand:  After the WCMA AGM last fall, ARCA's Tracey McEwing and Brooke Carter, with some help from Jed Harrison of NASCC, submitted an in-depth proposal to the promoter, for use of the Indy track.  However, the Indy track is owned by the City of Edmonton so NASCC delegated Jed and myself to liase with the City, as it has its own internal procedures to follow with respect to proposals for use of any City-owned facility. Dealing with the City can be a convoluted and time-consuming process. In mid February, to try to speed things along, I prepared a Letter of Intent and submitted it to the City and to the promoter, as lawyer to NASCC. The LOI is intended to be a foundation upon which a final agreement might be based. The LOI had input from a number of individuals with both ARCA and NASCC.  Until we have a final agreement, the terms and conditions of the LOI have to remain confidential and known to only a limited number of people.  This is a commercial, multi-party negotiation. The promoter is supportive of NASCC's use of the track after the Indy weekend; we have resolved some key points including insurance availability. However the final go-no-go is up to the City of Edmonton administration and probably City Council too.  There are other agendas at work here which are unconnected with motorsports.  Nothing will be gained by outside interference whether directed at the City or anyone else. Any final agreement will be prepared by the City's legal department.  This has always been a long shot, so the best we can do is continue on the path embarked on in the hope of having some events in August and September. Old Pony,

I had heard some rumblings that there was a chance of racing at the track prior to the Indy race weekend. Has this rumoured opportunity evaporated? The main reason for this question is, if it has, we can now plan to go race south of the border albeit with more expense but at least a team can plan! Please advise.
