Congratulations to all of our race drivers on a hard fought and safe season.  The final weekend was an intense battle for podium positions with every race making a difference to the final standings. Eric Emary, Dean Chorzempa and Chris Saunders duked it out with only a fraction of a second separating them in each race, jockeying positions back and forth. This is the ultimate display of the kind of competitive tight racing the Spec Miata Championship can offer. It was a tremendous display of driving talent and sportsmanship watching these competitors race in such close quarters. They have demonstrated the experience we all aspire to.

The scoring format for the Spec Miata Championship allows a racer to miss an event in case life gets in the way.  It also allows a racer either with mechanical difficulties or other misfortune, to use the equivalent number of races in a weekend as mulligans so that the total points included are a better reflection of driving talent. Finally, it allows racers on a tighter budget to get by with less fresh tires for approx 25% of the races. For those racers with their unfair share of mechanical difficulties or just plain bad luck, we all acknowledge your hard work and effort, giving it your best try.  Another season dawns in 2018 and as always, our Spec Miata Championship drivers will be there for each other to help make the most of it. We look forward to continuing our camaraderie in the off-season as we help each other to prepare, to share memories, and to work together to continue to drive towards improving our Spec Miata Championship and the number of people it reaches.

Thank you to Hoosier Tire for the big discount we get on Hoosier tires, the same price that the SCCA receives as a much larger entity. Also thanks to Gee & Gee racing for providing us with excellent service and tire availability. Thank you very much to Mazda Canada for supporting us with generous contingency funds which continues to be a driving force in growing our number of racers. Thank you to ARM race marshals for all the hours on the corners and sweeping up after us. Thanks to the organizer of the races and for allowing Spec Miata to have its own run group and for the WCMA stewards for working with us to keep the bodywork to a minimum. Thank you all for your contribution to making this season another successful one!

Congrats especially to Eric Emary who set a new Qualifying Record time of 1:30.002

An now for the points:

Congratulations to Chris Saunders for winning his first Spec Miata Championship title!!!!!!! Chris beat Dean by a mere two points in the final tally. Congatulations to Dean Chorzempa for continually amping up his game through the course of the season and challenging for the title. Congratulations also to Eric Emary who also continued to amp up his game through the course of the season.  I can't even imagine what 2018 will look like with 5 to 7 competitors in the lead pack with only a fraction of a second between cars on every single lap. Its going to be a huge nailbiter every time!!! Just AWESOME!!  Keep it up guys!

Thanks for doing this Gerard.  Could you remove my points for weekends #2 and #3 (except for the last race of weekend 3 when I ran some Dean's Wallet Racing takeoffs ;)?  I was testing tires on these weekends; while not a performance advantage they are still non-spec so I don't feel it's appropriate to accept points.  (Sorry I didn't notice earlier; I hope your spreadsheet auto-updates!)

Thanks,
Chris

No problem Chris. I'll make the adjustment as you wish. You weren't protested for using those tires. Everyone knew you were testing them out and that they have been around 2 seconds/lap slower. Of course, the KOR race could have been used as a test session instead so you didn't have to miss out on points ::) but winning championships must be so been there done that for you anyways ;D

Yeah but I think it's important to test any tire we might want to use through a full normal life cycle so I wanted to run them for full weekends.  Plus I had lots of fun running with different folks in the field; I may have missed out on points, but I didn't miss out on fun!
