Battery disconnect switch

I have a question regarding battery disconnect switches.  I read in the rules that the switch needs to be on the cowl in front of the driver.   I was wondering if it's acceptable to have anywhere else.  My battery is in the trunk of my car and I was hoping to put the switch on my rear bumper.  This would make more sense to me because it kills power to the whole positive wire as well as killing the engine.

Having the switch on the cowl only makes sense if the battery is in the stock location.

Thanks for any help

I have my battery on the passenger side floor, and the kill switch is outside, in front of the driver. Wherever the battery is, the power still has to go to the front of the car, and having the switch in the same place for all cars means that, in case of a serious emergency, the marshals do not have to search for the switch. Racing is about safety, not necessarily about convenience.

Good luck, and see you at the track...

I have to agree with Brooke on this. I have my battery in the trunk and you have to run all the wires to the engine compartment anyways so put the kill switch either on the cowl in front of the driver or just inside the drivers door by the windshield post or roll cage. Because I cannot mount it easily on the cowl on my car (unibody construction) mine is attached to the front roll cage within easy reach by any marshall who is trying to help extract me from the car from the drivers side. Also I can easily reach the kill switch myself. Make sure to also use the blue triangle decal to identify the kill switch. My car has been though Tech many times and the location has never been an issue.

Thanks the the replies.

My car will also race 1/4 mile so I just wanted to make sure.  Since they make you roll up your windows for drag racing, putting it inside the car probably isn't an option.  Hopefully putting it on the cowl isn't going to be hard with this car (R32 GTR).

I'm trying to set up my car so I can race it pretty much anywhere.

thanks again!

In this case you might want to wire up 2 switches, one on cowl and one inside the car which can be reached by driver. Either switch should kill all power to and from the alternator.
