Karts in Autoslalom Proposal

The Winnipeg Sports Car Club and WCMA have put together the following proposal for allowing Karts in Autoslalom Events. The Junior Kart issue has been put aside for the present time. This proposal has been distributed to all of the other Regions across Canada for their feedback. If a majority of Regions are in favour of pursuing the proposal, it will come back to the National SoloSport Committee for finalization, before being presented to ASN Canada. We'll see what happens. Proposed ASN Regulations for Karts in Autoslalom Events

1. ELIGIBLE KARTS
1.1. Any kart meeting currently approved Two-cycle or Four-cycle classes from ASN Canada FIA Kart Regulations posted on: www.asncanada.com
1.2. Any kart currently eligible for SCCA Solo competition
1.3. There is to be no mixing of rule sets. Example: A kart prepared for Rotax DD2 class in Canada cannot run with an axle that would be SCCA legal but not DD2 legal.
1.4. The competitor is responsible for providing the rules to which the kart is prepared       

2. WHEELS/TIRES
Wheel: defined as the assembly of a rim with a pneumatic tire, for the driving and/or propulsion of the kart. 5? and 6? wheel diameters are approved
2.1. Tires -all karts must follow these tire rules
ASN or ASN affiliated Autoslalom organization reserves the right to designate specific tires, with regard to manufacturer name, size, and manufacturer designation, etc.
Tires in competition and practice must be pneumatic, designed for racing applications only.
Radial tires are not permitted.  Tires must be no larger than 12.5 inches in diameter and no smaller than 9.0 inches in diameter as imprinted on tire. Tire width is limited to 5.5 inches for the front and 7.1 inches for the rear as imprinted on tire.

3. DRIVER'S ELIGIBILITY
3.1. Drivers must possess a valid drivers license.


4. DRIVERS RACING EQUIPMENT
4.1. Head and Face Protection
a) A full coverage (full face) helmet with shatterproof protective visor meeting the requirements as
follows is required:
Snell Foundation Standards: - including, K-98, M2000, SA2000, M2005, SA2005, K2005
Helmet cushions - Use of helmet cushions (neck collars) is optional.
4.2. Rib Protectors
Unaltered rib protector devices, designed for motorsport use, are mandatory. They must fit properly and remain in place at all times when a driver is on the track.
4.3. Driver?s Suit and Apparel
Drivers are required to wear racing suits designed for karting use for all events. CIK-FIA homologated racing suits are recommended. They must cover the whole body, legs and arms included. Abrasion resistant shoes and gloves that completely cover both hands are mandatory.
Leather overalls complying with the standards defined by the FIM are authorized.
4.4. Long Hair Protection
If hair extends appreciably from beneath helmet level so as to present a safety concern in the opinion of event race officials, it is mandatory that participants wear a balaclava or head-sock to prevent hair from extending outside the helmet.
4.5. Loose Clothing
No apparel items such as bandanas, sweater hoods, loose belts, etc., are permitted.
4.6. Pre-Race Equipment Inspection
All driver personal safety equipment must be in good condition and may be subject to pre-race
inspection prior to any on-track activities at each event and throughout an event.
4.7. Rain Racing Driver Equipment
Competitors may use a spinner type helmet visor device fitted to their helmet and visor, in addition to all normally required safety equipment. When a spinner is used, provided it is an accessory offered by the specific helmet manufacturer, the driver?s face must be fully protected by a full-face shield. Fully protected means that debris from the air can?t enter the helmet.
4.8. Use of Driver?s Racing Equipment
During all on track sessions drivers must at all times wear the required driver?s racing equipment as defined in these regulations.
4.9. Hand Controls
On application to ASN, permission may be given for the fitting of brake and throttle hand controls.


5. SOUND REGULATIONS
Drivers may use non-Homologated mufflers to comply with club sound regulations

6. EVENT REGULATIONS
6.1. Organizer of an event, where Karts will be allowed, must have the site approved by a Licensed Regional Steward prior to sanctioning events at that site. The Steward may disallow the site, or impose course restrictions, based on site obstacles.
6.2. The Organizer will indicate whether a particular event will allow karts, a minimum of two (2) weeks ahead of time in their supplementary regulations, so that kart participants will know whether they can participate in that event.
6.3. Courses for karts should not pass within fifteen (15) metres of any upright solid objects (e.g. light poles, fence posts, sign posts etc.)  The outside edge of a course should not pass closer than eight ( metres from any curb. While safety systems for karts provide acceptable driver protection for most incidents, upright solid objects present potential hazards for which kart safety systems are not well suited.
6.4. The Organizer will appoint an Event Steward to ensure that all kart course design requirements are being followed, if the event will be allowing karts to run.
6.5. Karts are not allowed to be driven under power through the paddock; they should be pushed, either on the ground or on a portable stand.
6.6. Karts grid separately from cars. Traffic flow to and from the grid area should be controlled.
6.7. If karts are allowed which require a push-start, such as shifter karts, the grid area should accommodate this need adequately.
6.8. All karts run as a separate group, and not intermixed on course with full-bodied cars. Kart group finishes before car groups start again. At no time will cars be on course at the same time as karts.
6.9. Event procedures regarding karts should be announced at the drivers? meeting and should also be available in written form for posting.
6.10. Karts may be serviced or have the engine running while on a kart stand without a driver
on board.
6.11. No loose objects may be carried on the kart while it is running on the course. e.g. cameras or ballast. These items must be bolted securely to the chassis.
6.12. Data acquisition systems are allowed in all kart classes.
