The 2010 WCMA regional series only had 13 people who had enough events to qualify for the year end championship.
I'm looking for suggestions on how this can be increased.

It was suggested at the AGM workshop to have the WCMA regional championship be decided on a two event weekend. And the championship would move around from year to year from club to club.
I'm looking for input from everyone on what they want for the 2011 season.

Thanks,
Clayton

It sounds a lot like the Canadian Nationals but without the travel to the East Coast...

If we adopt this format, it won't be a series anymore.
I still think we should have several events, and every WCMA affiliated club HAS to host one per year - and do it properly - under the risk of losing its affiliation. If we want the sport to grow we need events!

There are (IIRC) 11 WCMA clubs in Alberta. I'm not sure that 1 per club would work too well as a Championship. Certainly would make it tough for a Winnipeg'er to win...

The discussion did mention that it would be a lot like a WCMA version of the ASN Autoslalom Championship - it seems to have been a successful event for the last few years.

Did any of the 13 not attend SSIS?

Winnipeg perspective:

  • We don't currently have a proven Regionals caliber venue.
The attendance rate from other club has typically been lower than the number of participants we lose due to increased registration fee.
The Regionals passenger rule being different than WSCC creates logistical problems and unhappy non-regional participants.
The cost of attending a WCMA Regional is Saskatchewan is similar to attending SCCA Nationals in Lincoln and traveling to Alberta is more expensive.
If Saskatoon were to host the Regional Championship in conjunction with SSIS we'd probably get more competitors going from here.

My comment was not directed at WSCC: I completely understand problems with venues and don't blame the club nor think they should loose their WCMA affiliation. I just think that Alberta has way too many WCMA-affiliated clubs that never did anything for the sport...  >:(

Just to clarify, there are not 11 clubs in alberta that have solosport events. There are 6. And only 2 of those have any kind of regional event.
